Gavin Cole Hutcherson has died, and his absence is being deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.
Gavin Cole Hutcherson was born on December 19, 2012, in Danville, Virginia, to Heather Coleman Joyce and Randall Hutcherson. Though his life was tragically short, it was filled with love, joy, faith, and meaningful moments that will forever be cherished by those closest to him.
Gavin was a seventh-grade student at Victory Baptist Church Academy and was known for his bright personality, energetic spirit, and infectious sense of humor. He was described by family and friends as a lively, affectionate, and deeply caring young boy who brought joy into every space he entered.
Faith played an important role in Gavin’s life. He loved Jesus, had professed his faith, and attended New Life Community Church, where his family found strength and comfort. His spiritual foundation was an important part of who he was and how he connected with others.
Those who knew Gavin remember his playful, feisty personality and his ability to make others smile. He shared a special bond with his brother, Evan, whom he deeply admired. Family was central to his life, and he treasured every moment spent with loved ones, whether during everyday activities or special outings.
Gavin found happiness in life’s simple joys—visits to Chick-fil-A and McDonald’s, swimming at the beach, lake, or pool, and enjoying his favorite treats like ice cream and chocolate. He also loved video games, building with Legos, and collecting army men, reflecting his creativity and imagination.
He is survived by his parents, siblings, grandparents, extended family members, friends, and beloved pets, all of whom are mourning the loss of a young life gone too soon.
A visitation will be held on May 11, 2026, at New Life Community Church, followed by funeral services on May 12, 2026, with Pastor Terry Knighten officiating. Gavin will be laid to rest at the Coleman Family Cemetery.
